Clock tower

Antalya's famous Clock Tower Saat Kulesi was built in the late 19th century under the Ottoman rule, the square structure is made up of roughly cut stone which looms over the surrounding shops and cafes. This is the only tower remaining of the original 80 that made up the ancient walls of Antalya's inner citadel Kaleici. A Turkish flag continuously flies above the tower so it's an easy place to find. The old clock tower makes no attempt to blend into the modern city, instead, it stands tall in the city centre, marking the entrance to the old town, it's an impressive sight especially at night when the stone walls are illuminated with rich yellow lights.

The area around the Clock Tower is filled with cafes, bars and restaurants and its a pleasant meeting point for both tourists and locals, after dark clubs play loud music and a lively crowd descend on the square. During the day the area is still busy, inside the ancient walls are many options for accommodation and a close to the harbour the cobbled stone streets are lined with boutique shops offering souvenirs, handmade crafts and local sweets.

After you've taken some pictures of this iconic tower you might want to take a look at the other historical monuments in the area; Hadrians Gate and the Broken Minaret are both located nearby, alternatively, you could take a stroll through Antalya's tulip filled coastal park, just next door to the old town and harbour. The walk provides stunning views along Turkey's southern coastline.
