Hidirlik Tower
The Hidirlik Tower sits in the the center of Antalya, on the edge of the cobbled stone old town and on the border of Antalya's pretty cliff top coastal park, its a lovely view point and popular photo spot.
The 14 meter tall tower makes up part of the ancient inner citadels defensive walls which can still still be seen today in parts of the Old Town. The foundations of Hidirlik Tower date back to the 2nd century AD, when Antalya was under the rule of the Roman Empire while the upper floors were added during the Seljuk and Ottoman eras. The original use of Hidirik Tower has never been confirmed, historians have many theories, speculating that it was once a tomb or a church, a look out or a lighthouse but none of these stories have any solid evidence behind them. The mystery is part of the charm of the antique structure.
While it is not possible to enter the tower it is still worth a wander around its yellowing walls. The location is also an excellent sunset spot, affording spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea.
Hirdirlik Kulesi (Tower) is one of the 3 surviving monuments from the Roman period that are situated in Antalya's Old Town. From Hidirlik tower it is just a short walk to Hadrian's Gate and the Broken Minaret and to see more Roman artifacts you could stop by the Antalya Musuem.
