Hopa

Hopa is a northeast town along the Black Sea coast in Turkey, only 18km from the Georgian Border. The surrounding land varies in height going from 10m above sea level to the height point at Mt Yavuz Sultan at 1513m.

Due to its location on the Black Sea and bordering into Georgia and Anatolia, the early kingdoms were vulnerable to invasions, the region was brought into the Ottoman Empire during Sultan Selim I campaign against the Crimea in 1490-1512.

Today the city has its economy based from agriculture, predominantly tea, nuts and Kiwi. The fishing on the Black Sea is a large part of the local economy.
