Kasimiye Medrese is an example of ancient religious schooling style. Medrese refers to traditional school and seminar locations. Today there are no active Medrese due to Turkey becoming secularised in 1924.
This Medrese has two unique features, one is the pool and fountain that has a funnel shape that flows into a narrow slot with the funnel representing birth and the slit representing death and afterlife. The other unique item is a reproduction of an elephant clock designed by an engineer who lived in the 1100s
