The name, Kemer, comes from the stone walls which were built to protect the town from damage when the mountain river flooded. Originally the town was only accessible by boat but in the 1960s a road was built, connecting the town to the region's capital, Antalya as well as other major seaside towns. The major project was sponsored by the World Bank. Since then Kemer has become popular among holidaymakers and boasts a fantastic tourist infrastructure. The town has a busy harbour and is a regular departure point for Blue Cruises and Day Trips.

Kemer is a town set in a region of outstanding natural beauty and its highlights include; unspoiled stretches of fine beaches, transparent azure blue waters, quaint secluded coves, countless opportunities for watersports, rugged hills and jagged mountains of beautiful pine forests.

With excellent public transport links and a variety of Daily Tours, Kemer is a great place to base yourself when visiting the area. Popular sites near Kemer include; Goynuk Canyon, Three Islands, Ulupinar, with freshwater trout farm restaurants, the ancient Lycian ruins of Termessos or Olympos, which is also a short walk from the legendary Chimera ever-burning flames.

Kemer is now a favoured resort town with a buzzing nightlife and lively atmosphere. The town hosts many clubs, bars and restaurants, offering a variety of entertainment. Kemer is located 40 kilometres west of Antalya, on Turkey's stunning Mediterranean Coast.
