Rhodes is an island, approximately two hours by boat, off the coast of Turkey in the Aegean Sea. The capital, also named Rhodes, has an incredibly preserved medieval old town that is listed as a World Heritage Site on UNESCO and is home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Colossus of Rhodes. The Colossus of Rhodes was a 30m high statue of the Greek god Helios but was unfortunately destroyed by an earthquake, however, the ruins still remain. Popular beaches in Rhodes include; Agios Pavlos in Lindos in the center of the east coast of Rhodes island; Faliraki, just south of Rhodes city; Afandou, south-east of Rhodes city; and Tsambika, halfway between Rhodes and Lindos.
