Sumela Monastery

The Black Sea’s Sumela Monastery is stunningly built directly into the cliff. The main church was formed from a natural cave that was then altered into an arched vault chamber. All around the monastery there are brightly coloured frescos can be seen, these depict various aspects of Christianity from the Virgin Mary to the Last Judgement. The mystical feeling of looking down across the tall pine tree below hearing the call of the mosques through the trees from the distance.
