Ancient Iznik City Tour
Located 140 kilometres south of Istanbul ancient Nicea now Iznik, Bursa is an important and historical place that weaves its way through the tapestry of Turkish culture and history. This tour will take you to the serene lake of Iznik before moving on to some of the most historical buildings, Sights, Museums and Tombs. This tour is fully guided ensuring you get the most out of your time here and that you take with you some unforgettable memories.
Today's tour will start in the morning when you are either picked up from your accommodation or we will collect you from a pre-arranged meeting point, the day's tour includes lunch and we will take you back to your previous location at the end of the tour.
Iznik Lake
Our first part of the tour is not a stopping point but a place of interest none the less from the tour bus you will pass lake Iznik and there are some amazing panoramic views that are simply beautiful, the lake is 32 kilometres long and 10 kilometres wide and approximately 80 metres deep and the town of Iznik (ancient name Nicea) lies on its eastern shores.
Iznik Museum.
This amazing museum was constructed in 1388 and is a beautiful example of Ottoman workmanship, here in the gardens lie various tombs of Ottoman, Roman and the Byzantine era. The tiles on display here are wonderful examples from the Ottoman period and an important part of the history of Bursa, many artefacts here have been excavated from the various site of Bursa also on display along with the ceramics are jewellery and coins.
Tumulus and Monument tombs of Iznik
The next part of your day tour will find at the ancient sites of the tombs of kings and noblemen, a Tumulus is a burial place of the earth a mound, of which bursa has many.
We will take a break for lunch before travelling on to
Castle of Iznik
Our Tour will take us to the site of the Castle of Iznik from the bus we will have a panoramic view of this beautiful ancient building that dates back to 258 BC on our way to the Hagia Sophia church.
Hagia Sophia Church
For this part of the tour, we will stay on the bus as our expert guide tells you all about this extraordinary church that was built in the middle of the 6th Century during the Byzantine era.
Green Mosque
In Turkish the name of the Mosque is Yesil Cami and this spiritual place of worship has stood here since 1331 it has only 1 minaret but it is known across the country as the bright colours from the turquoise tiles have kept their brightness throughout the years. The mosque is known for its multiple domed roofs and inside the intricate and exquisite decoration of the walls ceilings and tombs.
