Bogazkale
Bogazkale is located in the Turkish province of Corum and is a delightful small town drenched in history and friendly people in the Black Sea region. Attached to the town is the neolithic site of Alacahoyuk which is an excavation of an ancient site dating back 6,500 years. If you are into history, you should definitely check it out, as well as the historical capital city of the Hittite empire in neighbouring Hattusa or the archaeological site of Alacahoyuk.
Bogazkale Museum
Opened in 1966 and renovated in 2012, the museum displays many artefacts excavated at the archaeological site of Hattusa located nearby. Here you will be able to get a glimpse back in time to the Hittite empire looking at the fascinating exhibits including the twin Sphinxes that once guarded the main gates of Hattusa, and the Great Temple. Also can be seen hieroglyphic inscriptions and tombstones from the Roman period that followed.
Hattusa Orenyeri
This is the excavation site where most of the monuments and artefacts found in the Bogazkale Museum were excavated from. Some of these include the famous Sphinxes, the guardians of Hattusa, and the Great temple. It is an open-air museum and you can freely walk around what must have been once upon a time the kingdom of a fearsome army.
Bogazkoy Alacahoyuk National Park
This site is a protected park located on the outskirts of the town of Bogazkale or Bogazkoy in Turkish. There are many natural sites which are totally unique to the area, including the ‘Hattusa Seker Pinari” which translates to ‘Hattusa Sugar Spring’ as well as ‘Aslali Kapi’ which means “Lion’s Gate”.
