Limyra
Limyra Ancient City is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites around Finike, offering a fascinating glimpse into the history of ancient Lycia. Located at the southern foothills of Tocak Mountain, the city was an important Lycian centre and reached particular prominence during the reign of Pericle in the 4th century BC, when Limyra became the capital of Lycia.
The site brings together remains from several periods, including the Lycian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine eras. Visitors can explore the ancient theatre, city walls, Byzantine church, monumental tombs and the impressive Pericle Heroon. Limyra is also particularly notable for its extensive collection of Lycian rock-cut tombs, with more than 400 tombs identified across the ancient city.
For travellers exploring the Finike area, Limyra offers an excellent opportunity to step away from the coast and discover the rich archaeological heritage of the Lycian civilisation. It is also included among the Lycian Civilisation Ancient Cities proposed for UNESCO World Heritage status.
