Brighton Beach (Gaba Tepe)

The ANZAC Landing was originally planned for this beach stretching southwards from Hell Spit to the promontory of Gaba Tepe

Just before dawn on 25 April 1915, the four battalions of the 3rd Australian Infantry Brigade, known as the 'Covering Force', were to come ashore here and move rapidly inland to positions along what was known as THIRD or GUN RIDGE.

Beach cemetery is situated on what was known as Hell Spit or Queensland Point, at the Southern point of Anzac Cove.

It received this name as early as 29 April 1915, by Lieutenant General Sir William Birdwood.

At Ariburnu The covering force faced only a small garrison of Turks, This initial landing was only the start of a long and bloody struggle that lasted the whole of 25 April 1915.

The Nek

The site of the unsuccessful attack of the 3rd Australian Light Horse Brigade, 8th and 10th Light Horse Regiment because of the 7-minute time difference between the men in the trenches and the Naval guns.

We will study the battle at the Nek, on 07 Aug 1915, Between 04:30-05:15 am, 234 Australian Light Horsemen from Victoria and Western Australia were killed and a further 138 were wounded. This was depicted in Peter Weir's famous Gallipoli movie.

The Highest point captured during the entire Campaign by The New Zealanders.The Famous bayonet charge of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk during the first battle for Chunuk Bair on the 10th of August 1915.
