Konya is a city like no other, located south of the country's capital of Ankara, Konya is full of history but also has the added extra of being the centre of the spiritual order of the Mevlana (Whirling Dervishes). The city fans out from one central point, the oldest part of the city, and here at its heart lies the Alaaddin Mosque, most of the other major Madrasahs, Mosques and museums are just a short distance from each other. making this tour the perfect way to learn so much from the past and which remains relevant today.

Konyanuma Panorama.
This amazing museum is situated in the heart of the city and will show you in miniature many of the Sufi lodges, giving you details and an insight into the lives of the Sufi’s, there are also many great works of art on display depicting the life of the Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi.
The Tomb of Mevlana & Museum.
The Mevlana Museum was once the former lodge of the whirling dervishes and is where you will see the tomb and final resting place of the Islamic scholar, Sufi mystic, Persian poet and theologian, Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi who was born in the 13th century. Here you will see the Tilavet Chamber which is where readings from the holy Quran are given and chanting takes place, Tombs, Ritual Hall and kitchens.
Semsi Tabrizi’s Tomb.
Semsi Tabrizi was a wandering nomadic dervish who in 1244 came to Konya and met Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi it was here the two mystics became friends and spiritual companions. Rumi spent more and more time with Semsi calling him his sun of shining light. After the death of Semsi, Rumi withdrew into prayer and meditation it was after this time that the infrastructure of the Mevlana order was founded.
Alaaddin Mosque.
The Alaaddin Mosque was once part of the Seljuk Palace built in the Mid 12th to 13th-century and lies at the very heart of the city. Over the centuries many changes have been made to the mosque and the main façade of today was built during the reign of Kaykaus 1 in 1219.
Built-in the Ottoman period, the great east door where most visitors enter leads you out to the courtyard of the tombs of the 8 Seljuk Kings.
Sadreddin-i Konevi’s Tomb.
Born in Malatya in 1209 he Sadreddin-i-Konevi was one of the most influential thinkers in mystical Sufi philosophy and a great Persian philosopher. He was a well known and well-respected scholar and a friend of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi is it said that before the great Rumi died he asked Sadreddin to read the funeral prayer.
Tavus Baba’s Tomb.
In the Meram area of Konya lies the tomb of Tavus Baba. We know that he was from India in the 13th century and that he was a follower of the teachings of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi his tomb is a simple stone building with no inscription.
Atesbaz-i Veli’s Tomb
Atesbaz grew up in the lodges of the dervishes and worked as a cook, he was born with the name Semseddin Yusuf possibly in Belh or Karaman in the 13th century and became one of the most important advisors to Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi he was greatly loved by all who met him. His tomb lies in the Meram district of Konya, it’s a typical style tomb, with an octagonal pyramid cone made of bricks sitting on an octagonal body made of cut stones. There is an inscription on the small window in the mausoleum of the tomb.
At the end of this tour, there will be a unique opportunity to meet the Whirling Dervishes of Konya.
