Gobekli Tepe and Sanliurfa City Tour

Gobekli Tepe is one of the world's most important archaeological sites. At 12,000 years old, it was built before the advent of writing or pottery and is believed to be the world's oldest temple. Don't miss the opportunity to visit this fascinating site which is causing archaeologists to rethink their vision of early human history. Our professional guided tour includes a visit to the archaeological site, as well as the Archaeology and Mosaic Museum in the city of Sanliurfa where you can learn more about this momentous discovery.

Sanliurfa is a city of huge religious significance, believed to be the birthplace of the prophet Abraham/Ibrahim, and the site of one of the most important events in the Bible and the Quran.

Sanliurfa to Gobekli Tepe

The tour begins when you are picked up from your hotel in Sanliurfa.

Our first stop is the ongoing archaeological dig at GobekliTepe, which is the oldest known temple in the world, pre-dating Stonehenge by 6000 years.

After a guided tour and photo opportunity at Gobekli Tepe, we return to Sanliurfa, where we will visit the Archaeology and Mosaic Museum, which is the largest museum complex in Turkey. Here you can see life-size replicas of the megaliths from Gobekli Tepe.

After the museum, we visit Abraham Pool. This is a highly sacred site for Christians and Muslims, as it is thought to be where Abraham/Ibrahim was thrown into the fire before God turned the fire to water and turned the burning logs to fish.

Following the pool, we will continue to the cave which is believed to be the birthplace of Abraham.

You will then be transferred to your hotel or Sanliurfa airport. This is the end of the tour. If you have any enquiries about further tours or travel in Turkey, we're happy to help!
